J. Robert Van Pelt and John and Ruanne Opie Library
A café, three-season garden/patio, and a service center that lends laptops, scientific calculators, cameras and other convenience equipment contributes to making the library the busiest building on campus with over 650,000 visits per year. We are open an extended number of hours per week and offer overnight access. Our University Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections focus on the history, culture, and peoples of our region with a special emphasis on mining history and commerce and the University’s history. The library supports the second oldest Federal Government Depository in Michigan. Workshops and events are held to heighten awareness among students and faculty of specialized databases and search strategies available only to communities with such centers. We also house the Jackson Center for Teaching and Learning and IT Services. Friends of the Library volunteers hold two annual book sales and run a sale shelf in the library. Proceeds from sales benefit the library.
