DESCRIPTION:Materials Science and Engineering Seminar\n\nDr. Fan Zhang\n\nC
ompuTherm LLC\, Middleton WI\, USA\n\nAbstract: In recent years\, the CALPH
AD (stands for calculation of phase diagrams) has become an effective appro
ach to obtain multicomponent phase diagrams with sufficient accuracy for pr
actical applications. Simulation tools developed by this method have gone b
eyond phase diagrams and have become the key building blocks for ICME (Inte
grated Computational Materials Engineering) and MGI (Materials Genome Initi
ative).\n\nIn this presentation\, Dr. Fan Zhang will first give a very brie
f introduction about the CALPHAD method and simulation tools developed with
this method. She will then present Pandat software developed at CompuTherm
. She will demonstrate how to use Pandat software for alloy design and proc
ess optimization. Unique features of Pandat software\, such as contour diag
rams and high throughput calculation (HTC)\, and their usage in materials d
esign will be highlighted. Optimization of heat treatment condition through
precipitation simulation will be illustrated. Moreover\, applications of P
andat software in other area\, such as corrosion and oxidation\, and integr
ation with other simulation method will also be briefly discussed.
