Presentation Title: The Development of Biodegradable Metals for Arterial Stents

Abstract: Biodegradable scaffolds under development for cardiovascular applications have garnered increasing attention in recent years. However, while extensive research and development efforts have produced numerous alloyed materials with refined structure, the biological consequences of a degrading zinc-based arterial implant have not been well addressed in pre-clinical studies.  This presentation will provide a general overview of the biodegradable metals field with a focus on the biological effects of zinc-based implant materials for cardiovascular applications.
