Cellular models: In vitro studies to assess cellular responses
Abstract: Cellular responses provide us with an understanding of pathways impacting the cells and differences in responses to specific treatments. For example, ongoing work in Dr. Rao's lab in Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Tech uses cellular models to study fructose uptake in cancer cells. Through the use of breast cancer cells, proliferation, migration, and protein expression changes related to cancer have been assessed. The studies have been extended to 3D cultures to better represent the in vivo conditions. More recent studies have focused on cellular models to assess the risk of exposure to arsenic contained in soils through contact exposure. In this seminar, Dr. Rao will present an overview and progress in both these research areas.
