DESCRIPTION:ME-EM Graduate Seminar Speaker Series\n\nproudly presents:\n\nD
 r. David Pratt\nWright-Patterson Air Force Base\n\nAbstract: Devices capabl
e of dissipating high intensity heat energy which can meet vehicle requirem
ents are required for numerous terrestrial and space applications. Of the h
eat transport devices under consideration in the regime of interest\, most
utilize the latent heat of vaporization via liquid-vapor phase change. Rele
vant to the research presented are passive capillary driven phase change de
vices or capillary driven heat transport devices (CPHTD). CPHTD is a family
of device to include heat pipes\, thermosyphons\, capillary pumped loops a
nd looped heat pipes. The presentation will focus on the history of their d
iscovery and then primarily on the work performed within the Aerospace Vehi
cles Division of the Air Force Research Laboratory.\n\nBio: Dr David M Prat
t has spent the last five years as a Principle Aerospace Engineer in the Ai
r Force Research Labor. For thirteen year prior\, he was the Senior Technic
al Advisor for the Structures Division of the Air Vehicles Directorate\, Ai
r Force Research Laboratory. He was primary responsibility and technical au
thority for all research and development efforts in structures\, system-lev
el thermal management\, and multidisciplinary design methods for the Air Fo
rce Research Laboratory. In addition\, David has made substantial contribut
ions in the area of energy and mass transport\, integrated vehicle health m
anagement\, energy based design\, among numerous other areas. Dr Pratt is a
Fellow of both American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aero
nautics Society. He is the recipient of t General Benjamin Foulois Award fo
r Excellence in Research\, the highest award presented by United States Air
Force\, Air Vehicles Directorate. Dr Pratt has publish over 100 publicatio
ns in total with 2 handbook chapters\, 28 refereed journal articles\, 37 re
 fereed conference papers\, 21 invited papers or presentations\, 4 invited l
 ectures and numerous other presentations.
