This presentation provides an overview of the legal issues associated with technology in the K-12 schools. Discussion topics include: cyberbullying, inappropriate use of the Internet by students, teachers and staff, school policies, procedures and contracts, and ethical issues. In this interactive session, participants will discuss legal cases involving social networking (including student and teacher misuse of social networking sites and school disciplinary actions that arguably cross the line) and the role of schools in those cases. Participants will also discuss other technology-related scenarios, with an eye toward developing strategies and averting legal problems should an issue arise in their school.

Bissonette is a lawyer, teacher and writer.
