PHFoundation Endowed Professor Seminar
Dr. William Cooke, professor and chair of Health and Kinesiology at the Univeristy of Texas San Antonio, will speak on emergency medicine and preventive health. Cooke is the first PHFoundation Endowed Professor candidate of 2017.
Seminar Abstract: The autonomic nervous system is intimately linked to regulation of most organ systems, and application of autonomic neurophysiological mechanisms to emergency medicine may lead to non-invasive devices that save lives. Exercise modulates human autonomic neurophysiology, and represents a fundamental strategy to prevent disease and improve quality of life. In this seminar I will highlight fundamental applications of human autonomic research to traumatic injury, and propose how the link between exercise and autonomic neurophysiology will positively impact residents of the western upper peninsula of Michigan.
