After thoughtful consideration, Michigan Tech Hockey Camp will not be offering on-campus housing for players and will focus exclusively on delivering an outstanding daily camp this year. We're thrilled to continue offering the high quality hockey camp tradition that participants know and love! By dedicating 100% of our energy to a full schedule on-ice instruction, off-ice activities and engaging experiences throughout the day, we're excited to provide an even stronger program this year! We look forward to welcoming everyone back this summer and encourage families to explore the many excellent local lodging options for a fun and memorable stay-and-play experience!
For younger players ready to gain fundamental skills and get into the game, Michigan Tech's Group 1 Hockey Camps are the best place to start! This camp is open to boys and girls birth years 2017 - 2019 with at least one year of organized hockey experience. Participants will need their own water bottle and snacks daily, as well as a small bag to carry them in.
Skaters are given the opportunity to learn forward and defense positions while goalies are given goaltending instruction, with plenty of practice time. Participants learn and practice under personalized direction from Michigan Tech's staff as well as current varsity players, alumni, and guest instructors. Counselors are assigned to each group and remain with campers throughout the day. Lead and assistant instructors are present for all on and off-ice programs.
Programs are built around daily on-ice instruction, focusing on power-skating, shooting, passing, positional playing, and small area games. Off-ice programming includes hockey skills and age-appropriate competitive games.
Group 1 will be divided into (1) black team and (1) gold team prior to the first day of camp. Both teams stay together for the duration of the week.
Locker rooms/areas will be assigned for each day of camp. Participants will need to bring their equipment back and forth daily.
Parents are encouraged to help dress their players when possible. Full hockey equipment and athletic apparel/shoes are necessary. Please label all personal belongings.
Michigan Tech Sports Camps enforces an Authorization to Release policy for all hockey campers. Parents, guardians, and alternative authorized release persons will be the only ones allowed to sign a child out during camp, at the end of each day (commuter campers).
