K.C. Bonker’s Road to Joy begins at a child’s birthday party. The joy of the day is taken away—and a heavy void settles in its place. That night, the distraught birthday child sighs—and with that breath, begins an epic journey.

Traveling through the night, and into the next day, the child meets the mystical crew of K.C. Bonker’s flying machine, the Punky Steamer. One by one, they give the child strange and wonderful gifts, the Powers of Play. Wanting to learn more, the child slips aboard the Punky Steamer and becomes the Stowaway.

With the Stowaway hidden on deck, K.C. Bonker and his crew set out to rescue a baby unicorn stolen by the Joyless Giant, Foe Fum. Weighed down by a great burden, the giant wields the very forces that ruined the Stowaway’s birthday party.

As the crew search high and low for the giant, the Stowaway discovers the power of the gifts he’s been given. But K.C. Bonker has yet another rescue mission in mind–- one that soars even higher, and delves even deeper, on the Road to Joy.
