Russian composer, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (of "Flight of the Bumblebee" fame) based his most enduring work, Scheherazade, on "One Thousand and One Nights," a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales compiled during the Islamic Golden Age. The piece sparkles with vivid orchestral color, exotic harmonies, gorgeous melodies, and a recurring violin solo whose virtuousity represents the mysterious Princess Scheherazade.
