Ricardo Eiris, PhD
Michigan Technological University
Abstract
Increasing complexity in manufacturing processes requires improvements in learning and training strategies. Tomorrow's workforce will need life-long training methods and the proper educational systems to support the convergence of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, ubiquitous internet connectivity between people and objects, new interfaces between the human body and machines, and the capacity to collect and utilize massive data sets. This presentation discusses the use of virtual and augmented reality to better learn complex manufacturing processes, specifically focusing in the construction industry. Dr. Eiris research experience utilizing virtual environments, 360-degree panoramas, virtual humans, and storytelling for advancing construction training and learning will be discussed in detail.
Bio
Dr. Ricardo Eiris is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Michigan Technological University. He received his PhD in Design, Construction, and Planning from the University of Florida in August 2020. He is an educator and a researcher on the dynamics and implications of human-technology interactions in construction and engineering. His research interests are in the areas of real/virtual humans in mixed reality environments, human-technology interaction in educational settings, human-computer/robot interaction, and unmanned aerial systems/vehicles (UAS/UAVs). He also teaches various courses in the area of building information modeling (BIM) and technology applications in construction.
