Husky Bites presents Special Guest Adam Meckler

Assistant Professor, Visual and Performing Arts
Director of Jazz Studies
Michigan Technological University

Co-host

Jared Anderson, Department Chair, Visual and Performing Arts, Michigan Technological University

TopIc: Adam Meckler joined the faculty at Michigan Tech Fall of 2019 after a decade-long career as a freelance trumpeter, composer, and educator based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Meckler is the third director of the Jazz program at Michigan Tech. The program has a 52-year history of Jazz in the Midwest--a Jazz program that has thrived at a university largely known for its STEM curriculum.

Dr. Michael Christianson, Director of Bands at Michigan Tech says, “Adam Meckler is a top-class performer and composer, but we were really impressed with his teaching: a great mix of modern and old-school!”

In addition Meckler leads The Adam Meckler Orchestra (AMO), an 18 piece big band that plays his original compositions. The AMO's debut album 'When the Clouds Look Like This 'was listed among the Best Jazz Releases by iTunes. AMO released ‘Magnificent Madness’  just before Meckler packed up his family to move to Houghton. Check out his full bio here. And his linktree here, too: https://linktr.ee/AdamMeckler

During Husky Bites, he'll be talking about the shift of the music economy from selling albums to streaming, tools for young musicians looking to build a career in music, and ways for musicians to carve out passive income so they can focus on the music.

Join us early at 5:45 p.m. for conversation and a weather update.
