  can afford. \n\nABOUT\n\nMichigan Tech Music\, part of the Michigan Tech 
 Visual and Performing Arts Department\, offers ten music performance group
 s: bands\, orchestra\, jazz\, and choral ensembles that expose students\, 
 faculty\, and the community to the artistic and communicative values of mu
 sic and the power it has to change lives.\n\nFounded in 1971\, the Keweena
 w Symphony Orchestra is the Upper Peninsula’s oldest orchestra and one o
 f five symphony orchestras in the Lake Superior region. The KSO is a colle
 ge-community ensemble composed of Michigan Tech students\, faculty and sta
 ff\, and community musicians. The orchestra presents four to five concerts
  per year—including orchestral masterworks\, choral-orchestral\, music t
 heatre\, ballet\, opera\, and pops—in the Rozsa Center for the Performin
 g Arts.\n\nJoel Neves enjoys a dynamic and versatile career as an opera\, 
 ballet\, and orchestra conductor and educator. A prizewinner in the Americ
 an Prize in Conducting\, Joel is Director of Orchestral Activities at Mich
 igan Tech\, where he conducts the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra. Joel served
  as national President of the College Orchestra Directors Association (COD
 A). During his term of service\, he made a special focus on repertoire for
  college orchestras\, especially contemporary music and music by women com
 posers. Joel received a Doctor of Musical Arts in orchestral\, choral\, an
 d opera conducting from Arizona State University and bachelor's and master
 's degrees from Brigham Young University.
