This is a past event.

Dr. Llorenç Cremonesi, postdoc research fellow at University of Milan, Italy, will present at this week's Physics Colloquium.  Cremonesi's presentation is titled "Radiative Properties of Dielectric and Absorbing Aggregates".

The seminar will be presented  at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 14) in Fisher 139. The coffee hour will be held at 3:30 in the Fisher Hall Lobby.

Abstract: The optical properties of aerosols, especially those close to the size range of the wavelength of incident light, are related to their composition and morphology. This is one of the reasons why it is hard to find an accurate yet simple theoretical model. For example, the properties of the primary particles and their distribution in an aggregate enhance its interaction with the incident light. We discuss an overview of forward and large angle scattering by micrometric particles based on experimental observations and simulations.
Bio: Llorenç Cremonesi is a postdoc research fellow in the Physics Department at the University of Milan. He holds a Ph.D. in Experimental Physics (2019) and a Master in Physics (2016)  from the University of Milan. During his Ph.D., he studied the optical properties of aerosols and small mineral dust particles such as those found in polar and alpine glaciers. Since then, he has worked on topics related to light scattering, light propagation, and its interaction with microscopic particles, including colloidal aggregates and soot particles. He enjoys spending time in the lab and tutoring and teaching in undergraduate courses and high school workshops.
