DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\n\nObservations of the Universe provide us with ample
  evidence that the Standard Model of particle physics needs to be extended
 . Galaxy rotation curves\, dynamics of galaxy clusters and the properties 
 of the cosmic microwave background can be explained by extending the parti
 cle spectrum with massive particles which do not interact with light - dar
 k matter particles. Abundances of light elements are consistent with primo
 rdial nucleosynthesis and the properties of the cosmic microwave backgroun
 d given that there is a precisely determined excess of matter over antimat
 ter which cannot be explained within the Standard Model. The distribution 
 of large structures in the Universe and the properties of the cosmic micro
 wave background hint at the possibility that the hot Universe was preceded
  by rapidly accelerating - inflating - Universe. \n\nAttempts to describe 
 all these phenomena with tools of particle physics require going beyond th
 e Standard Model. During almost two decades of my career as a physicist I 
 have had the privilege to contribute to each of the three aspects of cosmo
 logy described above. Based on this experience\, I will provide a personal
  and subjective review of the progress that has been made in that time.\n\
 n \n\nBio: \n\nDr. Krzysztof Turzyński is an Associate Professor of Physi
 cs at the University of Warsaw\, Poland. He chairs the Group of the Theory
  of Elementary Particles and Interactions in the Institute of Theoretical 
 Physics. He also serves as the Physics Department’s Dean of Students. Dr
 . Turzynski received his Ph.D. in Physics from The University of Warsaw\, 
 Poland. He was a Research Fellow at the Department of Physics\, University
  of Michigan in Ann Arbor. \n\nHe has authored 31 publications in scientif
 ic journals. He serves as a reviewer for Physical Review D\, Nuclear Physi
 cs B\, European Physics Journal C\, and International Journal of Physics G
 . He is a Member of the Polish Physical Society\, and the Polish Children
 ’s Fund. He is actively involved in the promotion of science at the Poli
 sh Children’s Fund. He regularly gives popular lectures at the Warsaw Sc
 ience Festival. He has been a member of the Organizing Committee of Physic
 s Olympiad in Poland.
