PMMF: Bizet’s Carmen

Welcome to the 28th season of the Pine Mountain Music Festival!  The 2018 festival takes place June 15 - June 30 in Houghton, Calumet, Marquette, and Iron Mountain, in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula.  This season's pièce de résistance is Bizet’s sensuous opera, Carmen, which is the 37th opera produced by PMMF.

Director Liz Hansen and music director/conductor Joel Neves lead a stellar cast, chorus, and orchestra in what many consider to be the most oft-performed opera in the world.  Filled with world-famous tunes and memorable melodies, dripping with drama and vengeful violence, there is something for everyone in this tragicomedy about a free-as-a-bird Gypsy girl and her romantic exploits, set in Seville, Spain, in 1820.

Amanda Crider, a brilliant singer and multifaceted artist, plays the role of Carmen.  Many will recognize the return of tenor Isaac Hurtado (Ultimi: Three Tenors) as Don José and soprano Heather Youngquist (Resident Opera Artist, Rockland The Opera) as Micaëla.  Baritone Christopher Holmes (Escamillo) rounds out a rock-solid lead cast.
