Sharon McMahon: With Malice Toward None
An Evening of Empathy, Civility, and Thoughtful Conversation
ROZSA PRESENTING SERIES | BRIDGING COMMUNITIES SERIES | VAN EVERA DISTINGUISHED LECTURE SERIES
In a world of incredible polarization, how do we hold space for free speech and make sure that everyone feels safe and welcome? Join Sharon McMahon, the former high school government teacher known for her ability to break down complex political issues with empathy, respect, and clarity, for this compelling and timely discussion inspired by the words in Lincoln’s second inaugural address:
“With malice toward none;
With charity for all;
Let us strive on to finish the work we are in;
To bind up the nation’s wounds;
To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan.”
Sharon’s talk will be followed by a Q&A session moderated by Michigan Tech’s University Ombuds and Social Sciences Associate Professor Susanna D. Peters, JD.
CONTENT GUIDANCE | As "America's Government Teacher," Sharon focuses on educational, non-partisan governmental topics.

About the Rozsa Center
The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts cultivates a vibrant and connected community through experiences that bring the Keweenaw together. Located on Michigan Technological University's campus in Houghton, Michigan, the 80,000-square-foot arts center's design is inspired by the inclined look of the local copper mine hoists and shaft houses inside and out. Event spaces include the Rozsa Lobby, James and Margaret Black Performance Hall, Rozsa Backstage, Rozsa Art Galleries, and McArdle Theatre. As the largest theater in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Rozsa dramatically expands the region’s access to large-scale performing arts events including Broadway tours, ballet, cirque, music, and more.
