 \nTopic\n\nRail is considered more energy efficient and in many ways more 
 sustainable transportation mode\, as compared to highway and air transport
 . However\, in order for rail transportation to keep up with the other mod
 es of transportation\, it must keep developing alongside them—and with a
 n equal amount of passion. Some of the challenges (but also opportunities)
  in the US include long asset lives\, non-flexible structures and private 
 ownership. During Husky Bites\, Prof. Lautala will share the secrets behin
 d the energy efficiency of rail\, guide us from past railroads to what the
 y are today and discuss how railroads are securing their future in the era
  of rapid technology development. Prof. Lautala directs the Rail Transport
 ation Program at Michigan Tech\, something he has done for the past 18 yea
 rs—preparing students to thrive and succeed in the rail industry. Joinin
