Dr. Baron Colbert, Senior Engineer, Alta Vista Solutions

Abstract:

A long-awaited transportation infrastructure bill passed the US Senate in August of 2021. This spending package of nearly $1 trillion over five years offers the nation an opportunity to rebuild the national infrastructure system not seen since the construction of the interstate highway system. Baron Colbert, a MTU alumni, will discuss his experiences, opportunities, challenges, and pathways to participating in this ongoing effort to improve, rebuild, and modernize our national infrastructure through the construction materials testing field. 

Bio:

Dr. Baron Colbert, a civil engineering graduate of Michigan Tech, is currently a Senior Engineer with Alta Vista Solutions, headquartered in Oakland, CA. Dr. Colbert supports client objectives and initiatives with his strong interpersonal management and communication skills. He has a thorough background in asphalt mix testing and asphalt materials and has managed mobile testing laboratories. Dr. Colbert has experience performing various lab tests including, aggregate testing, asphalt mixture performance tests, Superpave asphalt mixture design tests, and asphalt binder grade testing. Dr. Colbert has provided technical expertise and recommendations in support of multiple states and the Federal Highway Administration initiatives for the improvement of project delivery including, specifications, program risk and opportunity assessments, and providing recommendations for resolving roadway materials related issues.
