Join us on Friday, September 19, for our first RTC Research Forum of the fall semester! Formerly known as the Brown Bag Series, the Research Forum brings together faculty, graduate students, and guest researchers of the Rhetoric, Theory, and Culture program to present on topics relating to their current research at noon on the third Friday of each month. This month's talk will take place in Walker 329B while the Petersen Library undergoes renovations.
Presenting first is Samantha Stein-Brevitz with Vital Necroscenes: Internet Memes as Visual Tools for Environmentalism. Samantha's research aims to explore the connections between Internet memes and the necrocene that is the death of the planet. Through humor, Internet memes serve as a communication tool to emphasize the vital need to recognize and act on planetary crises and assist in dismantling Nature vs Human. In an effort to evoke change, the images presented show the irony that "this is fine" and life goes on.
