Keweenaw Time Traveler: A Public Participatory GIS Approach to Community-Engaged Heritage Scholarship
Join Don Lafreniere and Sarah Scarlett in an interactive brown bag talk about the Keweenaw Time Traveler project. In this talk, we will outline the contributions the project is having to the fields of Public Participatory GIS, Public History, and Historical GIS and will provide an update on the construction of the Historical Spatial Data Infrastructure (HSDI) and public interface. We will also discuss how our project activities are influencing local heritage management, interpretation, and education activities. We leverage the charrette model from urban planning to empower the local heritage community to help inform the design and functionality of the public interface. In this presentation, we will be asking members of the university community to test a beta version of three data collection apps and to provide critical feedback to the project team. Please bring a laptop or tablet! We have a limited number of devices available for those who do not have their own.
