The Department of Social Sciences (SS) is pleased to be hosting candidates for on-campus interviews for the position of Department Chair.
The second of five candidates, Thomas Pearson, professor of anthropology, Social Science Department, University of Wisconsin-Stout, will present a Department Leadership Seminar on Thursday (January 23) from 12:30 – 1:30 pm in ADMIN 404.
Pearson will also present a research seminar on Friday, (Jan 24) from 12:00 – 12:45 pm in AOB 201. The research seminar is titled “From Extractivism to Toxic Heritage: Ethnography in a Time of Crisis" Drawing on examples ranging from frac sand mining to toxic PFAS pollution, this presentation overviews the use of ethnography, a common method in the social sciences, to examine how people apprehend environmental change and engage the policymaking process.
