Abstract:
One of the most urgent challenges in contemporary chemical research centers on the development of green catalytic processes that give desired products efficiently without forming wasteful byproducts. We discovered a number of selective catalytic C-H coupling methods of alkenes and arenes with alcohols that form water as the only byproduct. The analogous coupling reaction of amino acids with ketones led the expedient formation of the C-C coupling products. The hydrogenolysis of carbonyl compounds have also been achieved by ligand-modified Ru-H catalysts. These catalytic methods employ readily available substrates, form a library of biologically active products, and liberate only water and ammonia as the byproducts. This seminar will present the scope and mechanistic studies on these catalytic coupling methods.
