Husky Bites presents Special Guest Martha Sloan
Professor Emerita, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Michigan Technological University
Co-host
Dan Fuhrmann (Applied Computing, College of Computing)
Topic
Professor Martha Sloan’s impact on people on and off campus has been monumental. A pioneer in many aspects of her career, her passion for students, for electrical engineering, and for Michigan Tech is evident to anyone who has ever had her for a class or met her in person. Dr. Sloan was the first woman hired as a faculty member in the Michigan Tech ECE department in 1969, and then was the first woman to head the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the largest professional organization in the world. As a professor in electrical engineering for 44 years, her clear teaching and way of challenging students has influenced thousands of Tech graduates. Dr. Sloan earned three degrees–a BS in Electrical Engineering with great distinction, an MS in Electrical Engineering, and a PhD in Education–at Stanford. In 2014, she was recognized by the Michigan Tech Alumni association as an Honorary Alumna. Joining in will be Dan Fuhrman, current chair of Applied Computing, and former chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan Tech.
