College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science Present: Fall Seminar Series
Dr. Liana Zanette
Professor Wildlife Population, Conservation, and Behavioural Ecology, Western University (Ontario)
Dr. Liana Zanette is a distinguished Professor and Faculty Scholar in the Department of Biology at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Her research primarily focuses on wildlife population dynamics, conservation, and behavioral ecology. Dr. Zanette has pioneered research demonstrating that wildlife's fear of humans can surpass their fear of natural predators, leading to significant ecological impacts. Utilizing innovative technology developed in her lab, she has shown how these fear responses can cascade through the food chain, affecting entire ecosystems. Her work has been widely recognized and cited, contributing significantly to the fields of ecology of fear, predator-prey interactions, population ecology, and conservation biology. Dr. Zanette's contributions have not only advanced scientific understanding but also informed conservation strategies to better protect wildlife and their habitats.
