Husky Bites presents Special Guest Michelle Jarvie-Eggart

Assistant Professor, Engineering Fundamentals
Michigan Technological University

Co-host

Amanda Singer '19
MS, BS Environmental Engineering
Michigan Technological University

Topic

Prof. Jarvie Eggart will tell us about a Michigan Tech first year engineering design challenge conducted in partnership with Engineers Without Borders Australia. Working via Zoom last spring, student teams designed structures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Cape York, Australia—shelters, keeping places for artifacts, and mobile amenities for campsites. Prof. Jarvie Eggart along with alumna Amanda Singers, one of her former students, will share how students use the Stanford d. School's Design Thinking model to guide the process, including empathy, prototyping and feedback, and how they get comfortable with the ambiguity of problem-based learning. We’ll all learn more about the impact engineers can make on a global scale, using professional skills to volunteer or give back to society—especially during a pandemic.

Join us early at 5:45 p.m. for conversation and a weather update.
