Presentation Abstract 
As advanced oxidation processes have matured, more applications are seen both in drinking water treatment and reuse. With respect to drinking water treatment, applications for advanced oxidation in recent years include for the removal of VOCs, constituents historically removed by air stripping and adsorption, and for 1,4-dioxane removal, a constituent not removed by alternative technologies like air stripping and GAC.  Corrosion control is an important part of drinking water treatment as recent experiences across the state make clear. Post treatment to prevent corrosion, prevent to metals mobilization, and to prevent metals mobilization are newer topics becoming understood by the reuse community.  The LCR revisions promulgated in 2021 will be discussed. Learning Objectives include: 1. Understand the fundamentals of advanced oxidation; 2. Understand basic concepts of corrosion control; 3. Understand practical applications of advanced oxidation and corrosion control applied to both drinking water and reuse; and, 4. Understand the regulations that affect advanced oxidation and corrosion control including the EPA Lead and Copper Rule Revisions of 2021 and the SWRCB Division of Drinking Water's potable reuse regulations. The topic is important because advanced oxidation processes are being implemented across the state and corrosion control is being applied both in drinking water treatment and reuse.

Biography
Dr. Hokanson is an expert on physical and chemical processes applied to water treatment and potable reuse, with over 25 years of experience and more than 75 publications. He has developed engineering design tools for water treatment for the EPA & for wastewater reuse onboard the International Space Station for NASA. He has spent the last 15+ years at Trussell Technologies on projects involving physical and chemical treatment, drinking water treatment, ocean water desalination, and potable reuse. He earned PhD from environmental engineering at Michigan Tech. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan and a Registered Civil Engineer in California. He is also a Board Certified Environmental Engineer.
