Catherine A. Leslie, Chief Executive Officer, Engineers without Borders USA

Abstract: 

Today, all nonprofits are struggling to ensure that their resources, both in terms of volunteers and financial, are appropriately utilized.  Cathy Leslie will talk about volunteering with a nonprofit organization and how that affects communities in the US and around the world both in normal times and in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Bio:

Ms. Cathy Leslie served as Engineers Without Borders USA’s (EWB-USA) Chief Executive Director from 2004 to 2020, four of those years as a volunteer.  She oversaw the growth of the organization from one university chapter to 250 student and professional chapters. The 10,000+ passionate, highly skilled volunteers that comprise these chapters work in more than 40 countries around the world and impact the lives of millions through the implementation of engineering projects to provide clean water, sanitation, access to market and health facilities, renewable energy and more.  

Ms. Leslie began her career doing water and sanitation engineering in Nepal as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Following her service, Ms. Leslie spent more than 30 years working as a consultant on the design and management of civil engineering projects, including providing master planning expertise to developing communities.   She is passionate about the power of community and engineering for good.  Ms. Leslie holds a BSCE from Michigan Technological University.
