About Us: We aim to provide opportunities for our members to learn outside of the classroom and give back to the community. In the past year, Michigan Tech's AIChE Student Chapter participated in the annual Make a Difference Day where we raked a nearby park in the Houghton Community and more. Overall, we had presentations from company representatives or industry experts 14 times! Our History: Founded in 1908, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is a nonprofit organization providing leadership to the chemical engineering profession. Representing 45,000 members in industry, academia, and government, AIChE provides forums to advance the theory and practice of the profession, upholds high professional standards and ethics, and supports excellence in education. Institute members range from undergraduate students, to entry-level engineers, to chief executive officers of major corporations. ChemE Car: MTU Chem-E Car team members design and construct a chemically powered vehicle within certain size constraints. This vehicle must be designed to also carry a specified cargo. The team is told at the time of the competition the distance that the car must travel and the specified cargo that the vehicle will carry. Teams compete at the regional conferences, the top 5 chem-e car teams from the region move on to compete at the national conference. The winning team is determined by a combined score, for traveling the correct distance, and for creativity.
